Sharifa
To call Sharifa Godfrey a "go-getter" would be an understatement! With years of public speaking and writing under her belt, there was no question she would pursue a career in journalism! At the tender age of 10 she was the host of her own talk show before hundreds of elementary school viewers.
Her first interview was at the age of 12, with the late Carolyn Goodman (a nationally prominent civil rights advocate) Sharifa's poem dedicated to Mrs. Goodman was highly recognized by major media outlets including; Opportunity Keeping Magazine, Children's Express and The New York Times! Working intimately with the non-profit organization Community Works, her poem was also featured in their Long Walk to Freedom exhibit traveling around the country. Since then Sharifa has interviewed and reported on a myriad of celebrities including; Soledad O'Brien, Spike Lee, Idris Elba, Chris Rock, Angie Martinez, and Keri Hilson to name a few.
Her musical background begins with years of singing in both her church and school choirs. In the 7th grade she shared the stage with R&B superstar Brandy at the famous Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Sharifa has also had extensive vocal training with legendary vocal coach Craig Derry...whose students include: SWV, Mary J Blige and the Hansons. Working with Derry provided a first hand seat to the cut throat music industry; this is where Sharifa developed connections with producers, dancers and up and coming artist around New York City. Her first hand experience and love for music, has given her the ability to recognize star quality in minutes!
Her work in TV include interning at FUSE, voice over work, the CBS Early Show, MTV commercials, BET’s 106 & Park and the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric. Working for a national news broadcast with some the top anchors, and executive producers in the country has allowed Sharifa to hone her journalism skills at an even greater capacity.
Sharifa graduated with distinction from Pennsylvania State University with a B.A. in broadcast journalism and minor in communication arts. She currently lives and works in New York City and still enjoys singing, writing poetry, and traveling on her spare time.
